Teaching Empathy Through Everyday Moments
Empathy isn't a lesson — it's a practice. Here's how to weave it into daily life.
Empathy — the ability to understand and share the feelings of another — isn't something you can teach in a single conversation. It's built through thousands of small, everyday moments.
The good news is that opportunities are everywhere. When you're reading a story, pause and ask: 'How do you think that character felt?' When someone is upset on TV: 'What do you think they need right now?' When you see someone struggling in real life: 'I wonder what would help them.'
These small questions build the habit of considering another's perspective. Over time, that habit becomes empathy — and empathy becomes kindness. It's one of the most important things you can cultivate in your child, because empathy is the foundation of every meaningful relationship they'll ever have.
Larry Says
"Every challenge is an opportunity in disguise. You've got this — and so does your child."
