Confidence is not about being the loudest voice in the room, never feeling afraid, or always knowing the answer. True confidence is the quiet inner belief that says: "I can try. I can learn. I will be okay even if I get it wrong." It's built on four foundations: a sense of safety, a sense of capability, a sense of belonging, and a sense of purpose.

Some children arrive in the world naturally bolder — temperament plays a role. But research is clear: confidence is primarily built through experience, not inherited. Every time a child tries something new, struggles, and tries again, their confidence grows. Every time a parent says "I believe in you" and means it, confidence grows. You are the primary confidence-builder in your child's life.

Practical exercise: This week, notice three moments when your child shows courage — even small courage. Name it out loud: "That was brave, trying something new." Watch how their face changes when you name the quality, not just the action.
